Many people are unable to afford medical expenses, especially when the breadwinner of the family falls ill. Without money for treatment, minor illnesses can escalate into major ones, not only burdening the family but also affecting the education of children. "Poverty leading to illness, and illness leading to poverty" creates a vicious cycle.

In February 2023, Tzu Chi established a free clinic, with local volunteer doctors and nursing staff stationed to provide medical services. Supported by several hospitals, the clinic facilitates referrals for further treatment, relieving the pain and suffering of local residents who lack financial means for medical care.
